                  About Us

The Port Coquitlam Daycare Society was established on May 5, 1975 to provide child care services for families in Port Coquitlam and surrounding communities.

The Port Coquitlam Children's Centre and the Port Coquitlam School Age Care Program are located in the Meridian Village Housing Complex. We are grateful to Metro Vancouver for offering the space.

All facilities are operated by a non profit, charitable organization registered under the B.C. Societies Act as The Port Coquitlam Daycare Society.  We accept and appreciate donations to help us in our mission of providing affordable child care in our communities.  If you wish to donate to our society, you may do so through our secure online donation portal.  All donations are tax-deductible, you will receive a tax receipt by email.

Our philosophy is based on the knowledge that children learn through play. The environment is thoughtfully set up with many success-oriented opportunities to encourage growth of the "whole child" through art, science, literature, music and free play.  Our programs use progressive educational best practices. We value the uniqueness each child and support their intellectual, social and emotional development.

Our program is designed so the children will have several positive experiences. Each child will have the opportunity to develop socially, emotionally, mentally, and physically in a safe, inclusive, happy and natural environment. We encourage autonomy, self confidence and responsibility by instilling problem solving skills, modelling independance and encouraging individuality. We acknowledge the children's accomplishments and always validate the child's emotions. In doing this, it shows the children that they are smart, they are unique and they are important!

                  Column

Our environment strives to increase the child's natural curiousity about the world around them and we model environmental responsibility. The program reflects a natural setting to play and explore including plants, animals, natural materials and resourcefulness. We take a collaborative approach within our centre and welcome everyone's input and ideas to continue to promote environmental education.
